We hired a commercial bus and met at 5:30am to take 48 soldiers to Washington DC on a "Religious Retreat".
Breakfast was at McDonalds - the only expense the soldiers had for the trip.
We stopped at the DC temple for 1 1/2 hours. There were 48 soldiers (34 of those not members of the church), 2 wives, and 2 missionaries. What a crowd!
A little PT (Physical Training) on the temple grounds.
Since most were not members, they gave the missionaries at the Visitor's Center plenty of discussion for an hour or so. They were very respectful and some very curious.
More missionary discussions.
Lunch was sub sandwiches in the parking lot of the stake center near the temple.
We let the soldiers loose for 3 hours on "The Mall", among the monuments and museums - certainly not enough time, but they enjoyed the opportunity. We also visited Arlington National Cemetery.
Dinner on the way home was at Golden Coral. I'm pretty sure they ate our money's worth. They were thrilled to have food that was not military rations.
It was a wonderful day. We had a nearly full bus with only 2 empty seats. Many asked when we are going again. We hope to do it in about 3 months.
